Maël van Beek is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science (International Relations and Methods) at The Ohio State University and an incoming Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Center for the Study of Democratic Politics at Princeton University. His research investigates the strategic implications of preferences for international bargaining in the context of great power competition between the United States, China, and Russia. He uses formal and computational modeling to derive internally valid hypotheses before testing their external validity using survey experiments and quantitative methods. His research is forthcoming at the American Journal of Political Science. Maël has previously held a fellowship with the Mershon Center for International Security Studies, and his research has been funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York and the National Science Foundation, among others.
