Liuya Zhang is a Ph.D. candidate in political science at the Ohio State University, with international relations and political methodology majors and comparative politics minor. She has a regional specialty in East Asia. Her research focuses on the postcolonial perspective of national identity, ideology, soft/symbolic power, public opinion, and foreign policy. Within her field, Liuya Zhang has a strong interest in interpretive approach, advanced natural language processing techniques and deep-learning in AI. She recognizes the potential of these methods to analyze and interpret large amounts of textual and imagery data related to identity narratives, enabling a deeper understanding of their influence on political behavior and policy choices. For her doctoral dissertation, Liuya Zhang investigates the interplay between representation of the other in national identity narrative and their impact on alignment and foreign policy decisions in post-colonial contexts. By employing cutting-edge natural language processing techniques, she analyzes and interprets textual and imagery data to uncover the mechanisms through which these narratives shape political choices.
