One of the constant refrains one will hear in civil-military relations is that there is a gap between the civilians and the military--a deep, wide gap in values, perceptions and so on. Well, here...
This summer may be the most Marvelous yet with Captain America 2, Spider-Man 2, X-Men Days of Future Past (otherwise X-Men First Class 2) and Guardians of the Galaxy. Sure, not all are by Marvel...
I stopped collecting Spider-man long ago when it got all clone-tastic. I tend to hate TV/movies/comic books that use clones in their plots. However, there is one exception Orphan Black is back...
What can I say? It was a good week in the US for gender minorities. (On the other hand, this new list of "most influential people in armed violence reduction" includes only 25 women.) In other lighthearted nerd fare, this inspired the scientist in me who must complete the method(ologie)s appendix for my new book on human security issues by 5pm or (spontaneously com)bust. About that: here is a neglected human security threat I did not think to focus on in my book: mega-solar flares. Earth beware. The lesson apparently is that Lucasfilm still exists? This is the second year that the Nerdist folks have combined with Lucasfilm to raise money for charity. How so?  By having a relay of folks carrying a lightsaber to Comic-con in San Diego. Oh, and posting a series of silly youtube videos. Here is the first one for this year:
I am posting this now for two reasons: 1) I am going to be at a conference for the next few days and the hotel apparently lacks wifi! 2) it is the anniversary of Youtube, which has made much of Friday Nerd Blogging possible. So here is a tribute to the Youtube anniversary:
This weekend marks the debut of the next Star Trek movie: So Dark, Oh So Dark 2. To mark the occasion: Two years to go!
It is that time of year when people are getting the official letter informing them that their tenure/promotion has cleared the final hurdles--the President, the Board of Regents/Governors/Trustees/Assorted Rich People.  So, congratulations to those that have made it past all of the various hurdles along the way.
